R72696 GSWA Narryer 2024-25 airborne magnetic and radiometric survey

GSWA is conducting an airborne magnetic and radiometric geophysical survey in the northern Murchison and southern Gascoyne region, in the area illustrated in the map below, as part of the GSWA program of geological mapping of Western Australia,

The survey is a collaborative project between GSWA and Geoscience Australia. The purpose of the survey is to enhance our understanding of landforms, geology and natural resources of the region, which will support future resource and land management decision-making. All GSWA datasets and reports are made available to the public from the DEMIRS website at no cost.

Measurements will be made from one or more light aircraft fitted with instruments to map variations in Earth's magnetic field and naturally occurring radioelement abundance in the soil. The aircraft will fly along lines 100 m apart at a height of 50 m above the ground. The instruments are passive, and do not transmit any signal into the ground. The survey aircraft and pilots are certified by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and flying operatiosns comply with CASA rules and guidelines for low-level survey flights.

Survey contract managment is by Geoscience Australia. Data acquisition has been contracted to specialist provider Thomson Aviation Pty Ltd. The survey will be flown in three separate blocks as shown below.

• Line direction: North-South and East-West
• Tie-line spacing: 1000 m
• Flying altitude: 50 m AGL
